Assoc. Prof. Yang Boyuan Wins IEEE Outstanding Paper Award

Yang Boyuan, an associate professor at the College of Artificial Intelligence at Nankai University, has recently received the 2021 IEEE Outstanding Paper Award for the Transactions on Industrial Informatics as the only corresponding author of the paper Simultaneous Bearing Fault Recognition and Remaining Useful Life Prediction Using Joint-Loss Convolutional Neural Network”.

In this paper, in view of the issues of lack of lifespan data and scarcity of operation information during the operation of high-end equipment, and taking into consideration the correlation between fault diagnosis and lifespan prediction, a method is proposed to realize equipment operation knowledge sharing based on the joint-loss convolutional neural network, and the effective integration of knowledge and data is promoted through algorithms such as implicit data enhancement, attention mechanism and representation bias, which have been verified and applied in practical engineering data. This work has previously been reported on the homepage of IEEE IET News and received extensive international attention.

As a top international journal in the domain of computer and automatic control system, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics ranks No. 1 in the field of industrial engineering in terms of global influence with an impact factor of IF=10.215 (from JCR). The Award was established by IEEE. Reviewers will select 1 or 2 excellent technological papers from nearly 1,000 admitted papers every year on the basis of the originality, professionalism and application value to highlight their work. The list of award-winning papers will be published in several IEEE journals in the the same domain.

The co-authors of the  paper are Dr. Liu Ruonan, a researcher at Carnegie Mellon University (first author, incumbent tenured associate professor at Tianjin University), Professor Alexander Hauptmann at Carnegie Mellon University and the corresponding author Yang Boyuan, associate professor at the College of Artificial Intelligence at NKU. Carnegie Mellon University is the first author's afiliationof the paper. Yang Boyuan joined Professor Fang Yongchun’s research group of the College of Artificial Intelligence in 2020 through an overseas talent introduction program. Professor Yang’s major research areas are intelligent operation and maintenance of major equipment, WITMED and AI game.
