College of Artificial Intelligence will admit the doctoral degree applicants according to Admission via Application & Assessment based on comprehensive quality and capacity of candidates in 2022. Applicants should register and submit application materials according to the Guide to Admission of Doctoral Degree Applicants of NKU and the relevant requirements of the College of Artificial Intelligence. Applicants will be granted the qualification of being assessed if their applicant materials pass the review by the professional team of various disciplines of the College of Artificial Intelligence, and finally admitted if they pass the comprehensive assessment. The specific measures are as follows:

I. Basic conditions (all the following conditions required)

1. Basic requirements: compliance with the application conditions specified in Guide to Admission of Doctoral Degree Applicants of NKU 2022;

2. Proficiency of foreign language: Applicants with English as foreign language should comply with any of the following requirements

① CET-6 (425 or above) or CET-4 (550 or above); 

② TOEFL (90 or above); 

③ IELTS Class A/Academic (6 or above); 

④ GRE (above 310) and GMAT (above 640); 

⑤ TEM-4 (and above); 

3. Scientific research requirements: Any one of the following requirements should be met:

① Published one or more papers in SCI journals as the first student author (the latest impact factor or the impact factor of the year when the paper is published is 1.0 or above);

② Published 2 or more papers in SCI and EI index journals as the first student author;

③ Published one or more papers in SCI or EI index journals as the first student author, and obtained two or more national invention patents (authorized or publicized, ranked in the top three students).

The above scientific research achievements should be published, or unpublished but accepted (subject to the official acceptance letter issued by the editorial department; for the overseas journal, the relevant email interface should be printed and signed by master supervisor).

4. The health status: compliant with the physical examination standards for graduate students in NKU.

5. Applicant category: All majors in NKU only admit the non-directional doctoral degree applicants, and applicants should transfer their files and salary relationship to NKU upon admission (special types of applicants stipulated in all kinds of special programs of the Ministry of Education and relevant documents of NKU are subject to requirements in the relevant documents). Applicants who are under directional or commissioned training should provide an official letter from the personnel department of the directional or commissioned training institution stating that allowing the applicants to study for doctoral degree full-time, and all files and salary relationships should be transferred to NKU upon admission. 

6. Those who obtain degrees abroad should provide the degree authentication certificate issued by Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange.

International students should meet the following requirements:

1.Applicants should be the non-Chinese citizens with foreign ordinary passports, sound in body and mind, without criminal records in China, and with corresponding academic degree and language level. The application for doctoral degree necessitates the master's degree in China or equivalent; applicants for Chinese-taught disciplines should get a minimum of 210 points in HSK Level 4.

2.The physical health status of applicant should conform to the Health Examination Standards for Foreign Students in China promulgated by the State Education Commission, and the health form approved by the inspection and quarantine department of China should be submitted.

3.If a former Chinese citizen applies to study in NKU as an international student after emigrating to a foreign country, he/she should hold a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for more than 4 years (inclusive), and have a record of actually living abroad for more than 2 years in the last 4 years (up to April 30 of the admission year) (the 9-months of actual living abroad in a year can be counted as one year, subject to the entry and exit signatures and stamps). 

4.The applicants should abide by Chinese laws, regulations and disciplines of NKU, and respect the customs and habits of the Chinese people.

II. Supervisors entitled to receive the doctoral degree applicants through Admission via Application & Assessment and corresponding admission quota

In 2022, the doctoral supervisors of College of Artificial Intelligence listed on the Catalogue of Doctoral Majors of NKU are qualified. The Catalogue of Doctoral Majors is available on https://yzb.nankai.edu.cn/; the admission targets of the College of Artificial Intelligence include direct doctoral applicants, master-doctoral applicants and doctoral applicants through Admission via Application & Assessment. 

III. Registration and application 

1. Registration online

The doctoral degree applicants of NKU should register in the online registration system of doctoral degree applicants in the National Graduate Admission Information Network. Applicants should pay the registration fee online in time. The assigned registration number and successful payment of registration fee mark the successful registration. The registration fee will not be refunded after payment. The registration will be deemed as invalid if the registration fee is not paid before the deadline of online registration.

2. Submittal of application materials

Applicants should submit the application materials through SF Express to the College before the deadline (subject to postmark and receipt date).

List of application materials (printed or copied on A4 papers, arranged and bound in sequence):

 (1) Application Form for Doctoral Degree Candidates through “Admission via Application & Assessment” of NKU 2022;

 (2) Registration Form for Applying for Doctoral Degree of NKU 2022 (with a recent 2-inch identification photo);

 (3) Academic transcripts for bachelor and master (stamped with the official seal of the Academic Affairs Office, Graduate School or Personnel Department);

 (4) Letters of recommendation issued by two professors (or experts with equivalent professional titles) in the applied disciplines and professional fields (The recommendation letter is an important measure for the College to grant the doctoral qualification, so the referrer should pay enough attention to it. The recommendation letter should be filled out by the referrer according to his/her own evaluation of the applicants fairly and objectively);

 (5) A copy of the applicant's valid ID card (both sides copied on a piece of A4 paper);

 (6) Copies of master's diploma and academic certificate (copy of graduate certificate for fresh graduate master students), and copy of degree authentication certificate issued by Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange for overseas applicants;

 (7) Copies of foreign language proficiency certificates (CET6, TOEFL, IELTS, GRE, etc.);

 (8) Abstract of master's thesis (the opening report of master's thesis for fresh graduate master students);

 (9) Award certificates, published papers, patents and other supporting evidences of original research results;

 (10) Statement of scientific research achievements during the master's degree, 2,000 words in both Chinese and English;

All the above materials should be true and reliable. If any forgery is found by the admission institution, the admission qualification will be immediately cancelled. 

3. Review of application materials

The College has set up an application material review team composed of the relevant experts to preliminarily review the application materials, determine the shortlisted namelist according to the review results and admission plan, and report it to the Graduate Admission Office for audit.

After the approval by the Graduate Admission Office, the College will publicize the shortlisted namelist for a period of 10 working days.

4. Comprehensive assessment

The College organizes a comprehensive assessment expert group of various majors composed of no less than 5 professors or doctoral supervisors to interview the applicants who have passed the review.

According to the discipline training requirements and the specific conditions of applicants, the interviewer will examine the applicants in terms of professional foreign languages, comprehensive knowledge application, cutting-edge knowledge of the discipline and the latest research trends by focusing on the innovative spirit, innovative ability, scientific research potential and comprehensive quality of applicants.

Each applicant should prepare PPT for a personal reporting of not more than 8 minutes.

The assessment adopts the hundred-point system, and applicants below 60 points will not be admitted. The proposed admission list will be determined according to the assessment results. The comprehensive assessment results will be publicized on the college website for ten working days.

5. Review and publicity of proposed admission list

The College will submit the proposed admission list of doctoral degree applicants through Admission via Application & Assessment for examination and approval by the leading group for graduate admission. After the approval, the College will publicize the proposed admission list for a period of 10 working days.

6. Admission

The files and salary relationship of non-directional doctoral degree applicants should be transferred to NKU (special types of applicants stipulated in all kinds of special programs of the Ministry of Education and relevant documents of NKU are subject to requirements in the relevant documents) before the admission notice is issued, otherwise the admission qualification will be cancelled.

IV. Compliant channels

If applicants have any dispute about the above matters, they can first lodge a complaint with the College, which will be investigated and handled by the leading group for graduate admission of the College. If applicants still have objections, they can further lodge a complaint with the Graduate School of NKU, who will investigate and handle it in accordance with the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education and NKU.
