Department of Automation

Department of Automation

Department of Automation was established on the basis of Automatic Control established in 1972 (renamed Automation in 1999). It is one of the earliest institutions to establish this specialty among the universities in China. In 1990, the Department of Automation obtained the authorization of doctor's degree in Control Theory and Control Engineering, and in 2011, it was approved the authorization of doctor's and master's degree in Control Science and Engineering. The older generation of control theory experts such as Chaochi Zhang, Guizhang Lu, Pengsheng Tu, Zhuzhi Yuan, Zhibao Wang, Yi Wang, Xiufeng Wang, Shunju Hu, Jingbo Wu, Xiasheng Wang have emerged here. The research in robotics, modern control theory, distributed parameter control system and other fields is in the leading ranks in China.

At present, there are more than 20 teachers in the Department of Automation, including 7 professors and 6 associate professors, all of whom have doctoral degrees. Among them, 2 are selected into the New Century Excellent Talents Support Program of the Ministry of Education, 2 are selected into Tianjin Outstanding Youth, and 2 are selected into the training plan of Nankai Youth Discipline Leaders.

The Department has an undergraduate major in automation, which was approved as a national first-class undergraduate major construction site in 2020. In addition to undergraduate majors, we also recruit master students with academic degrees in Control Science and Engineering, Operational Research and Cybernetics, secondary discipline direction of Artificial Intelligence. We also recruit master students with professional degrees in Electronic Information (Control Engineering). Doctoral students are enrolled in two doctoral programs: Control Science and Engineering (including secondary disciplines of Artificial Intelligence), Operational Research and Cybernetics. In addition, the control discipline also has a postdoctoral mobile station, which recruits postdoctoral students in Control Science and Engineering, Operational Research and Cybernetics.

There are three national, provincial and ministerial platforms supporting the study and scientific research of students in this subject: National Computer and Control Engineering Virtual Simulation Experiment Teaching Center, Tianjin Key Laboratory of Intelligent Robot Technology, Robot Control Theory and Methods National 863 Program Network Laboratory of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Department of Automation has a strong scientific research atmosphere and active academic thinking. It includes the Research Laboratory of Intelligent Prediction Adaptive Control, the Laboratory of Computing Intelligence and Information Security, the Laboratory of Intelligent Systems and Financial Engineering, the Laboratory of Intelligent Perception and Human Interaction, and the Laboratory of Control Optimization and Logistics Management. There is also a university-level scientific research institution Logistics Technology Research Center. Department of Automation is mainly engaged in the related research of the theory, method and technology of control science and artificial intelligence science. It promotes the development of control science and artificial intelligence while serving the national and local economic construction.
