Teachers from College of Artificial Intelligence Win Honors at CAC 2021

Recently, at the China Automation Congress 2021 (CAC2021) held in Kunming, Yunnan Province, the research team led by Professor Fang Yongchun of the College of Artificial Intelligence, NKU, won the China Automation and Artificial Intelligence Innovation Team Award. Moreover, Lu Biao won the Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Nomination Award, and his supervisor, i.e. Professor Fang Yongchun, won the Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Nomination Supervisor Award.

The NKU intelligent robot innovation team, i.e. the recipient of the China Automation and Artificial Intelligence Innovation Team Award, was established in 1988. It built one of the first batch of open labs on robot networks in the 863 Program in China, and won the first Second Prize of the State Technological Invention Award in the field of robot in China. After years of development, it enjoys a rational age structure, a harmonious and positive atmosphere, a strong sense of innovation, and outstanding research findings.

Lu Biaos doctoral dissertation, i.e. the winner of the Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Nomination Award, is titled Research on the Nonlinear Control Method of Underactuated Electromechanical System and Its Application. Because of such advantages as simple structure, low energy consumption and high flexibility, underactuated systems are popular in the sectors of industry and robotics. Under the guidance of Professor Fang Yongchu, the dissertation extracted and solved the general mathematical problem for a class of underactuated systems. On the premise of not affecting the stability of the systems, the dissertation proposes a suitable way to improve the transient performance and robustness of the systems, thus advancing the progress and development of relevant field.

Moreover, after declaration, reply, review and disclosure, the NKU Popular Science Base of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics was officially designated as the Popular Science Base of Chinese Association of Automation (CAA) (Responsible person: Fang Yongchun) in 2022. Going forward, the base, relying on the CAAs brand in popular science and the NKUs discipline advantages, will carry out scientist spirit publicity activities, in an effort to formulate a publicly recognized popular science work program.

As the council member of the CAA, the College of Artificial Intelligence will also continue to meet the major strategic needs of the country, grasp the future development opportunity of the automation technology, and continue making important contributions to helping realize the national historical leap from an economic and manufacturing power to a major power of creation.

Under the theme of inheriting and carrying forward the spirit of the scientists of the older generation and advancing the high-level self-reliance of automation, the CAC2021 is organized by the CAA and undertaken by the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASIA). The congress is co-chaired by Zheng Nanning, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), Fellow and President of the CAA, and Professor of Xian Jiaotong University, and Xu Bo, Director of the CASIA. After sixty years of development, the CAA has scored remarkable achievements. Established in response to the states needs, the CAA has grown with the national development, and gained strength to implement the national strategy. The CAA cannot make its glorious achievements without the hard work and perseverance of generations of CAA staff.
